Our History

Over Six Decades of Ministry

Chapel Rock was started to share the life-giving Gospel of Jesus with the west side of Indianapolis over 60 years ago. For more than five decades now, Chapel Rock has been reaching into this community, helping people find wholeness in Jesus Christ. We help develop people into disciples who are able to live out the mission of Jesus: to make disciples who tell the whole world about Jesus.

Small Beginnings

From our small beginnings in 1964 — at the home of Dwight Ingleman — to our present location in a large building at a busy intersection, Chapel Rock has labored to live its mission. Years ago, with growth exceeding 1,000 on an average Sunday, 25 acres was purchased of 21st Street and Girls School Road. On January 1, 1979, construction began on the new building at 2020 North Girls School Road. Chapel Rock has ministered to thousands of people over the years.  Not only that, but Chapel Rock has also served as a “mother congregation” for many new churches.

Leading Us Forward

Over the years, Chapel Rock provided space for meetings and groups, as well as building the Family Life Center, a full-size gym that we open to the community. Chapel Rock has also led community initiatives like building Adventure Fun Park & starting Go Love Indy to continue to reach the west side community for Christ.  Chapel Rock also provides a large number of volunteers for Wayne Township Schools’ HOSTS program. In the coming years, we are looking forward to finding new ways to partner with various organizations in our community to help people find the wholeness that we believe is only available in Jesus.  We believe that God has strategically placed us right in the middle of the west side in order to continue to live out that original mission of sharing the life-giving Gospel of Jesus with the west side.
